Undergraduate Program

Overview

The department offers programs to meet the needs of students with diverse career objectives, including professional chemistry, medicine, and teaching. Our ACS-approved curriculum opens doors for our undergraduate students.

In recent years about one half of our chemistry majors have continued their studies in graduate school, primarily, but not exclusively, in chemistry doctoral programs. Most of these eventually find positions in research and development in the chemical industry, government, or academic institutions. Typically 30-40% of our majors enter medical school after graduation, with a small number going into dentistry or law. About 15% of recent graduates have taken positions as chemists in industrial or governmental laboratories without further study.
