Integrated Molecular Structure Education and Research Center officially open for business
15 April 2008 The Integrated Molecular Structure Education and Research Center (IMSERC) has replaced the former Analytical Services Laboratory (ASL) and is now open for business. The name change reflects a change in operational scope and budgeting of the center. This will allow the lab to put state-of-the-art characterization techniques in the hands of both research groups and undergraduate students at Northwestern University and in the Chicago area. Design is underway for a new 10,000 sq ft laboratory, teaching and office area set to open in 2011. In addition, an endowment has been created to enable the addition of three full time staff members and reduce user fees to levels competitive with peer institutions. This endowment will cover approximately 80% of all operational expenses and will increase over time to ensure that fees will remain at the current levels indefinitely.
